The fetishistic alliance of art and food is worthy of postgraduate research and museum review but the genre has still to be fully exploited and explored in contemporary art. Bompas & Parr designs culinary artwork and extravagant food experiences often working on an architectural scale such as the Architectural Jelly Design Competition for the London Festival of Architecture. Truvia®Voyage of Discovery, was commissioned as part of a marketing campaign to launch a natural calorie free sweetener. An installation was created six storeys above Oxford Street by flooding part of Selfridges roof to create a crystal island, waterfall and bright emerald green boating lake with twelve rowing boats, a lifeguard and cocktail bar, with soundscapes by Dom James, and decorated with stevia plants (the source of the 200 times sweeter than sugar chemical). It was necessary to book for the event and participants were zoomed to the roof in a themed lift displaying classic books including Treasure Island and Fear Of Flying.
