Damien Hirst has designed the Brit Award for 2013 as a reworking of Britannia with a spot pattern. The association of Brit Art and Brit Fashion with statuettes is becoming a regular tradition as the 2012 statue was designed by Sir Peter Blake, and the 2011 award by Dame Vivienne Westwood. The Brit Awards – the British Phonographic Industry’s annual pop music awards – will be presented at the O2 Arena, London on 20 February 2013.
Damien Hirst won the Turner Prize in 1995, with prize money of £40,000; £25,000 for the winner and £5,000 going to each of the other three shortlisted artists. There is as yet no statuette awarded for the prestigious prize for a British visual artist under 50 years of age.
