Collaborative Urbanism will be a theme in Rio de Janeiro for the 9th edition of the Creativity World Forum and the 2nd edition of the Creativity World Biennale. Rio de Janeiro’s current urban transformation is centred around the Rio2016 Olympics site in the south of the city; and the old central port area based around the Morro da Conceição and Baía de Guanabara. The MAR (Museu de Arte do Rio) at Praça Mauá, is part of Porto Maravilha, a bigger urban renewal area project of Rio’s port area aiming to merge historical and new urbanism with cultural and bohemian value. Designed by Rio architects Paulo Jacobsen and Thiago Bernardes, the museum will host temporary exhibits and a permanent section on the history of Rio. MAR is based in two refubished buildings; the Palacete Dom João VI, 1916, and the Hospital da Polícia Civil. It will also include the Escola do Olhar, (The School of Looking) an experimental cultural space for schools. Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava’s Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow) is also planned as a “sustainably-focused” museum situated upon the Pier Maua on the Rio de Janeiro waterfront in the Baía de Guanabara.
The Creativity World Forum was initiated in Belgium in 2004 as part of the Districts of Creativity Network. For CRIo participants will exchange experience and propose solutions for the city. The event aims to develop projects from 2012 to 2016 through a programme of Creation / Projection (content, ideas, projects, inspiration) 2012 – Participation / Collaboration (inclusion, accessibility, opportunity) 2013 – Connectivity 2014 – Transformation / Evolution 2015 – Legacy 2016.
