Cornelia Parker’s Hot Poker will be on display for three months until the end of October 2011 as the 13th billboard in Ingleby Gallery’s public art project in Edinburgh. Like many of Parker’s works, her billboard image is born from an initially destructive process. Parker folds layers of A4 paper, then pierces the paper with a burning hot poker. Once unfolded, a brutal yet strangely beautiful image is revealed. The three other artists participating in Billboard for Edinburgh: Year 4 are Ryan Gander, Ruth Ewan and Anya Gallaccio.
As part of the project, Parker has created a limited edition print exploring the traditions of trompe l’oeil using new laser-cutting technology.
